2017 - Engaged Theatre Residency Performance at the Washington Corrections Center for Women

Time:
Monday, April 3, 2017 - 5:00pm - 10:00pm

Dear Freehold community,

This is a once-a-year, very unique opportunity to see an extraordinary performance. On Monday, April 3rd, participants from Freehold's Engaged Theatre residency at the Washington Corrections Center for Women will be performing an original work for the general public at their facility in Gig Harbor. These special performances are consistently described as "transformative" and "powerful" by our attendees.

In 2003, seeing an opportunity to connect more deeply with our community and radically transform Freehold's artistic practice, Robin Lynn Smith created the Engaged Theatre program to connect with some of Seattle's most challenged and underserved communities--prisoners, juvenile detainees, psychiatric ward patients, low-income housing project members--through theatre.

Our residency at WCCW, led by Robin Lynn Smith, Elizabeth Heffron, Grace Carmack, Aishe Keita, Vanessa Skantze, Emily  Pike, and Taryn Collis, has community members from WCCW participating in a 5-month series of workshops. The teaching artists work with the participating residents to generate an original piece of work in which they explore, write, act, improv, and move, in preparation to rehearse, and finally perform an original play which honors each of their unique voices.

If you are interested in attending either performance, you MUST RSVP by Monday, February 27th. The prison requires attendees be cleared ahead of time. The performances are free.

Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.

To attend, please RSVP doing the following:

1) Provide your legal name (as it appears on your government-issued identification--either your driver's license or passport), date of birth AND the last four digits of your social security number.
2) Send all of the information noted above by Monday, February 27th either by filling out our confidential online form HERE or by calling  206.323.7499 during office hours.

Once you RSVP and are cleared, we will provide you with more specifics regarding the time of the event, directions to the prison, and additional information regarding dress and prison guidelines. Unfortunately, we will not be able to coordinate carpooling to this event.

We and the participants of our Engaged Theatre residencies would be honored to have you attend.
