A letter from the Artistic Director ...

We are devoted to the realization of theatre that illuminates the life of the human spirit in performance and practice, professionally and in the community at large. This effort is based on a fundamentally optimistic premise that we can become better than we are.

Through the practice of theatre we invite each individual to begin to discover the creative force in themselves, to empower what is best, most unique, and pure within each soul so that it may shine through in all vocations.

The foundation of all of our work is organic, truthful acting. To pursue the way of organic truth is to devote yourself to a different purpose in your work – the Russians would say, to serve something higher – beyond diversion, cleverness, self aggrandizement: things that distract us from our lives. We work to foster entertaining, funny, moving, engaging, visceral performance that inspires us to remember our lives – to question, to celebrate, and to take action.

Organic work is more difficult than other methods: costlier in time, energy and personal revelation. But the value of the outcome is also different. It is of a different quality – like a vine ripened compared to a hothouse tomato; like a solid oak table to veneer covered plywood; or, as Mamet would say "like a wood fire to a fluorescent light."

Robin Lynn Smith, Artistic Director
