  SUMMER INTENSIVES

IMPROVISATION INTENSIVE

M. Smith
Summer; 4 weeks

Matt Smith's Improvisation Intensive is BY FAR the best way to study improv and put theory into practice. It starts from scratch and by the end you'll have the foundation for most long form improvisation. No experience required. This class concludes with a performance on Friday, July 25.

Summer

Weekdays 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; June 30 - July 25. $495. M. Smith. (No class July 4. There will be a class performance on Friday, July 25.)

MOVEMENT INTENSIVE

G. Lewis, K. McDonald
Summer; 4 weeks

As a continuation of the movement class or standing alone as a plunge into dramatic movement training, this intensive offers an immersion in Meyerhold's Biomechanics. The class is geared towards learning to work/act in a state of physical extremity. The basis for this lies in instilling an intensity of physical presence that radiates from the solar plexus to the extremities of the limbs, filling the three- dimensional stage space and radiating into the furthest reaches of the audience. This heightened state of awareness includes the relationship to the space itself: walls, ceiling, and floor: to set pieces, props, and costume elements: and finally, to the fellow actors. Throughout we will be marrying the physical with the vocal using sound, words, song, and will culminate with a short text.

Summer

Mondays 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; July 14 - July 30. $275. G. Lewis.

NEW PLAY LAB: FROM PAGE TO PERFORMANCE

A. Wheeler, V. Delaney, E. Heffron, P. Mullin
Summer; 8 weeks

You've written a first draft, now what? This dynamic class is designed for eight writers who've completed a first draft of their play, and are ready to explore the rewrite and rehearsal process. Working with a produced playwright throughout the month of July, you'll shape, refine, rewrite, and hone the story you're telling. Then, in September, you'll meet with an experienced director and actors for six to eight hours of intensive rehearsal, culminating in two public staged readings of a portion of your play, as part of Freehold's New Play Lab Showcase on September 18, 19, and 20. Rehearsals will be scheduled for the week or two before the showcase.

Summer

Tuesdays 6:15 p.m. - 10:15 p.m., Thursdays 6:15 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.; July 8 - July 31. $455. E. Heffron. (Selected portions of each play will be read at Freehold's New Play Lab Showcase on September 18, 19, and 20. Price includes a non-refundable lab fee of $30.) The early registration discount does not apply to this class. FULL. To get on the waiting list for this class, call the Freehold office at (206) 323-7499.

SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE

A. Thone
Summer; 6 weeks

Explore the nature and structure of Shakespearean language, and begin to decode its potent secrets that energize and empower actors. We will speak, deconstruct, speak, play, speak, study Elizabethan England and the man himself, speak, read, speak, watch cinematic bits of famous performances, and of course speak: all as a means to garner a more personal and powerful sense of ourselves as accurate and important interpreters of Shakespeare's plays. Instructor Amy Thone is an Artistic Associate of the Seattle Shakespeare Company.

Summer

Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Saturdays 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; July 12 - August 16. $450. A. Thone and P. M. Stetler.

VOICE INTENSIVE

G. Hammond
Summer

Students move through a series of voice/mind/body exercises aimed at freeing their natural voice and strengthening their connection to vocalized sound. You will develop a set of tools for vocal development that draws on an understanding of human anatomy and how to apply that knowledge of physiology to voice work. Students will acquire ease and power in their vocal skills which will enhance their vocal potential.
