Object Movement & Puppet Manipulation Workshop, Jan 31 - Feb 2 with Adam Ende

Friday - Sunday // 6pm-9pm (Fri), 2pm-5pm (Sat), 1pm-5pm (Sun)

The secret to the magic of puppetry is breathing life into inanimate objects, taking your audience on a journey in which they suspend disbelief. You give your audience the joy of believing, if only for the duration of your performance, that a lifeless object is full of life!

In this class you will learn to direct all your breath, energy and focus into objects. It is not necessary for a puppet to have moving mouths, moving eyes or any moving parts at all, to come alive. We will achieve the magical transformation from lifeless to alive through breath, gaze and subtle movement.

Since the puppeteer will not be hidden, we will also explore the interesting split focus you can offer the audience between the expressions and emotions of puppet and the puppeteer.

In this 3 part workshop we will start with common household objects (silverware, crockery, appliances, tools, etc), move on to dolls, toys and stuffed animals, and finally work up to bun raku style puppets, working in pairs to make them walk, talk, dance, and live.

Each session will end with presenting short skits or interactions with the objects & puppets.
