Rehearsal and Performance

In R&P, students will rehearse and then perform a play. This process will include casting, read-throughs, text discussions, contextual research, and the practical work of translating the drama from the page to the stage. Instructor David Hsieh, Managing Artistic Director of the critically-acclaimed ReAct Theatre, will lead the student-actors through the process of making choices that support both the playwright's and the director's intent, creating characters that are physically and vocally distinct, and working with the complexity of multi-character scenes. Each student-actor will participate in all aspects of production, including costumes, makeup, sets & props, music, and tech rehearsals. The class culminates in a weekend of performances in Freehold's Black Box Theatre. (Note: performance text will be chosen by the instructor based on the enrolled ensemble).
