Theory and Activism in Solo-Performance

This course provides students creative strategies to combine storytelling and activism. There are three pillars to this work: cultural theory analysis, EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) workshops, and solo-performance creation. Coursework includes writing exercises, short presentations of material, lectures and workshops, and will culminate in a showcase of original solo-shows (10-15 minutes in length), open to public. Storytelling is one of the most rigorous tools we have to fight oppression and social injustice. Activism is different for each person and in this class, you will learn how to share your personal truth from an authentic and creative place.
